An intentional approach to wedding photography

Welcome to Treehouse 1987. We are Chris and Karla, a husband-and-wife photography team documenting destination weddings throughout Costa Rica with an editorial eye and a deeply human approach.

For more than a decade, we have photographed celebrations across Guanacaste, La Fortuna, Manuel Antonio and beyond. What continues to matter most to us is not simply how a wedding looked, but how it felt the people who traveled across the world to be there, the quiet exchanges between generations and the moments that will become part of a family’s history.

Now that our family spends most of the year in Japan, we accept a limited number of weddings in Costa Rica between January and March, with no more than twelve celebrations each year. This slower, more intentional rhythm allows us to remain personally involved in every wedding we photograph and give each couple the attention their story deserves.

Our work blends honest documentary moments with thoughtful editorial portraiture. We take the time to understand what matters to you, so your photographs feel personal, natural and unmistakably yours not like a recreation of someone else’s wedding.

Booking Your Wedding Photography in Costa Rica

  • We keep things simple and stress-free! Here’s our step-by-step process for booking your wedding photography and/or videography with Treehouse 1987:

    Step 1: Check Availability

    Start by reaching out via our contact form or email to check if your wedding date is available. Since we take a limited number of weddings each year, we recommend booking as early as possible—especially for peak wedding season (January through May).

    Step 2: Choose Your Photography & Video Package

    Once we confirm our availability, we’ll guide you through our wedding photography and videography packages, helping you select the best option for your big day. Whether you’re planning an intimate elopement or a grand celebration, we have a package tailored to your needs.

    Step 3: Secure Your Date with a 50% Deposit

    💳 To officially reserve your wedding date, we require a 50% down payment. This ensures your spot on our calendar and allows us to start planning for your big day!

    Step 4: Sign the Contract

    Once your deposit is received, we’ll send over a contract outlining all the details of our services, including deliverables, timelines, and expectations. This protects both you and us, ensuring everything is clear and transparent.

    Step 5: Schedule a Pre-Wedding Video Call

    With everything set, we’ll arrange a video consultation to go over the details, answer any questions, and discuss your wedding day timeline. This helps us ensure we’re fully aligned with your vision.

  • Since Costa Rica is a top destination wedding location, we recommend booking at least 9–12 months in advance, especially for weddings during peak season (January–April). However, if your date is coming up soon, reach out—if we’re available, we’d love to capture your special day!

  • Yes! We specialize in wedding photography but we just launched our offer for cinematic wedding videography. You can book them together or separately, depending on your needs.

  • Each package varies, but generally, our photography collections include:
    - Full wedding events coverage (Getting Ready, First Look, Pre-Ceremony, Ceremony, Newlyweds, Reception and Party!
    - High-resolution, professionally edited images.
    - An online gallery for easy viewing and sharing.
    - Optional add-ons like engagement sessions, Rehearsal Dinner, Catamaran Tour Coverage or additional hours.

  • Yes! While we’re based in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, we also travel to La Fortuna and Central Pacific Coast for your wedding. Travel fees may apply depending on the location.

  • We accept local bank transfers and PayPal for the 50% deposit. The remaining balance is due 30 days before your wedding date.
    *Keep in mind that transfers fees are not included in the pricing.

  • Our standard turnaround time is 8–12 weeks for your full gallery. We’ll also send a few sneak peeks within a few days of your wedding!

    *We offer Flash Delivery service for an additional fee.
