Just around the point from Tamarindo lies its quieter, more elegant sibling. Playa Langosta is where the crowds disappear, where private villas nestle into the cliffs, and where the sunsets feel like they were made for two.

For couples who want everything Tamarindo offers, minus the crowd, Langosta is the answer.

Why We Love Photographing Here

The privacy. Where Tamarindo hums with life, Langosta breathes. Fewer footprints on the sand, longer stretches of empty beach, and the same golden light that made Guanacaste famous. In more than ten years of photographing here, we have watched Langosta quietly become the choice for couples who want luxury and calm in the same frame.

The beach itself has personality: dramatic rock formations at the ends, tide pools that fill with color at sunset, and a curve of coast that faces perfectly west.

The Light Guide

  • Morning: quiet, empty, warm. Sunrise sessions on Langosta are among the most peaceful experiences a photographer could ask for.

  • Afternoon: villa gardens provide shade for portraits when the sun is high.

  • 4 pm onward: side light hits the rock formations and lights them like a natural set. This is when we make some of our most cinematic images.

  • Sunset: the beach faces west directly. Expect deep oranges reflecting off the tide pools, an effect you cannot recreate anywhere else.

  • Blue hour: the villas above the beach light up warmly. Long exposure portraits with the villa glow behind you become instant favorites.

Planning Your Photography Timeline

Langosta invites a slower rhythm. We often build the day around 3 to 4 photography moments spread across the afternoon, so nothing feels rushed. First look at the villa around 3 pm, ceremony on the beach or terrace at 4:30 pm, portraits at Sunset Point at 5:45 pm, and reception coverage under the villa lights. For couples staying multiple days, a next morning sunrise session on the empty beach produces some of the most peaceful images they take home.

FAQ

How is Playa Langosta different from Tamarindo? Same golden coast, less than a five minute drive apart, but Langosta is quieter, more residential and more private. Tamarindo has town energy. Langosta has villa calm.

Is Playa Langosta good for larger weddings? It works beautifully for 20 to 80 guests in a private villa setting. Larger celebrations tend to work better across the point in Tamarindo, but Langosta is unmatched for intimate luxury.

Do you photograph villa weddings often here? Yes. Villa weddings in Langosta are one of our specialties, and we know the property layouts and light patterns of many of them.

Where Weddings Happen in Playa Langosta?

Private luxury villas: Langosta's hillside is dotted with fully staffed villas that sleep 10 to 30 guests. Weddings often unfold as full weekend takeovers, with welcome dinners, pool days and the ceremony all within one property.

Cala Luna and Sueño del Mar: two boutique hotels that host intimate weddings with true Costa Rican character.

The beach: long stretches of open sand allow for ceremony setups with almost no other people in the frame, something impossible on busier beaches.

Sunset Point: at the north end of Langosta, a small headland where we take couples for the final 10 minutes of light. This spot alone is worth choosing Langosta over any other Guanacaste beach.
