There is another Costa Rica most travelers never reach. On the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, Santa Teresa (or better known as Santa Tere by locals) is where dirt roads meet designer villas, where surfers and yogis share the same sunset, and where weddings feel completely, unmistakably like nowhere else on earth.
It is not the easiest place to reach. That is precisely why it is worth reaching.
Why We Love Photographing Here
The soul. Santa Teresa attracts a specific kind of couple: creative, unhurried, drawn to authenticity over polish. That energy shows up in every frame we make here. Weddings on this coast do not look like resort weddings anywhere else in the world, and that is the entire point.
The landscape helps. Long uncrowded beaches, jungle that rolls right down to the sand, dramatic cliffs at Playa Carmen, and the softest, most cinematic light we photograph in Costa Rica.
The Light Guide
Morning: cool, misty and often magical. The jungle behind Santa Teresa holds moisture overnight and releases it in soft golden mornings that feel like a film set.
Afternoon: strong sun. We work under the jungle canopy or inside the open air villas during this window.
4 pm onward: the beach turns amber. Santa Teresa's west facing coast catches longer, warmer light than northern Guanacaste, thanks to the peninsula's angle.
Sunset: the entire sky burns. We have never photographed sunsets more dramatic than the ones here.
Blue hour: fire pits, jungle sounds, string lights. Reception coverage in Santa Teresa is the closest thing to cinema we know.
Planning Your Photography Timeline
Santa Teresa rewards a slower day. Most weddings here unfold across three or four days, with welcome dinners, beach days and the ceremony spread out. On the wedding day itself, we recommend building around sunset absolutely: ceremony at 4:30 pm during dry season, cocktails while we quickly cover family portraits, then a 20 minute couple session ending at sunset on the sand.
For access, Santa Teresa is a 4 to 5 hour drive from San José or a 30 minute charter flight into Tambor. We coordinate our travel around your timeline and always arrive at least the day before.

Is Santa Teresa hard to reach for guests? It takes more effort than Guanacaste, and that is part of the charm. Most guests arrive via San José with a shuttle or a short domestic flight to Tambor. The couples who choose Santa Teresa tend to have the kind of guest list that considers the journey part of the adventure.
What makes Santa Teresa different from Tamarindo or Nosara? The vibe. Tamarindo is beach town classic. Nosara is yoga barefoot serene. Santa Teresa is creative bohemian with an edge, more untamed and more design forward at the same time.
Do you travel to Santa Teresa often? Yes. It is one of our favorite corners of Costa Rica to photograph and we plan our travel around each wedding so we arrive rested and ready.
