Costa Rica Wedding Cost Guide 2027–2028: What Couples Really Spend
After more than ten years photographing weddings on the beaches of Guanacaste, there is one question we hear before any other. How much does a Costa Rica wedding actually cost?
The honest answer is that it depends on the celebration you are dreaming of. But after hundreds of weddings in Tamarindo, Playa Flamingo, the Papagayo Peninsula and beyond, we can give you real numbers, not vague ranges copied from the internet.
Here is what couples from the United States, Canada and Europe are really investing in 2026 and 2027.
Why Costa Rica Is Worth Every Dollar
Before the numbers, some context. Costa Rica was named the Best Nature Destination of 2026 by Forbes, and it is easy to see why. Where else can your ceremony have a golden sand beach, a living jungle and a Pacific sunset in the same frame?
Direct flights from most major US cities take only 3 to 6 hours, which means your guests arrive relaxed instead of exhausted. And compared with Hawaii or many Caribbean islands, your budget simply goes further here. The same celebration that feels impossible at home becomes a full week in paradise with the people you love most.
The Three Types of Costa Rica Weddings and Their Real Costs
Elopements and Micro Weddings: $5,000 to $12,000 Total
If it is just the two of you, or you plus a handful of your favorite people, Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful places on earth to elope.
A realistic all in budget looks like this:
Ceremony and legal officiant: $600 to $1,200
Photography: $2,000 to $3,500
Hair and makeup: $250 to $500
Flowers and small details: $300 to $800
Accommodation for a week: $1,500 to $4,000
Flights for two: $700 to $1,500
Many of our elopement couples tell us the same thing afterward. The photographs became the most important investment of the entire day, because they are how the people who were not there get to live it with you.
Intimate Destination Weddings, 20 to 60 Guests: $15,000 to $40,000
This is the heart of what we photograph. A beach villa or boutique hotel, your closest people, a ceremony at golden hour and a dinner under string lights.
Typical breakdown:
Venue and catering: $8,000 to $20,000
Wedding planner: $2,500 to $5,000
Photography and video: $4,000 to $8,000
Flowers and design: $2,000 to $6,000
Music: $1,000 to $3,000
The 2026 trend we see everywhere is beautiful. Couples are inviting fewer people and spending more per guest. Smaller guest lists, better food, longer celebrations, more intention in every detail.
Luxury Resort Weddings: $50,000 and Up
Venues like Four Seasons Papagayo, Andaz Peninsula Papagayo and W Costa Rica Reserva Conchal offer a level of service that rivals anywhere in the world. Weddings here typically start around $50,000 and can reach $150,000 or more for multi day celebrations with welcome parties, catamaran days and farewell brunches.
If this is your world, we wrote dedicated guides for photographing at each of these resorts. We know the light, the corners and the moments each property gives you.
When to Get Married in Costa Rica
The dry season runs from December through April, with reliable sun and those famous pink and orange Guanacaste sunsets. This is peak season, so venues and vendors book 10 to 14 months ahead.
May, June and November are the sweet spots for value. The landscape turns a deep green, the light softens, and prices drop noticeably.
